Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
